Background

Aikatsu! began as an arcade card game in 2012, inspiring a 2012‑2016 TV anime and three films. The Aikatsu Stars! spin‑off, launched in April 2016, introduced Yume Hoshizora and her friends, who compete in the Neo Venus Academy. The series concluded in March 2018 with 100 episodes, but its legacy continued through subsequent installments, each with its own arcade card game.

The 10th‑anniversary film for the entire Aikatsu! franchise, 10th Story Mirai e no Starway, celebrated the series’ history in January 2023, bringing together the original Aikatsu! creative team. Now, Aikatsu Stars! is taking the spotlight again, this time with a film that not only commemorates a decade but also pushes the narrative forward.

What's Next

While the trailer does not disclose the full plot, the confirmed elements suggest several possibilities:

1. Graduation & New Challenges – With the story set just before Yume’s graduation, the film may explore the transition from student to professional idol, mirroring real‑world idol trajectories.
2. Venus Jamboree Stakes – The invitation to perform among the world’s top idols indicates a high‑stakes competition that could test the characters’ teamwork and individual growth.
3. Mystery of the Petit Venus Ark – The appearance of a mysterious passenger ship hints at a plot twist involving unknown characters or a new idol group, potentially expanding the Aikatsu! universe.
4. Musical Showcase – Given the emphasis on theme songs, viewers can expect elaborate musical numbers that showcase the characters’ talents and the franchise’s signature dance choreography.

In terms of marketing, the full trailer and key visual were unveiled during a fan meeting event, a strategy that has proven effective for the franchise’s previous releases. Fans can anticipate additional promotional material—such as character posters, behind‑the‑scenes footage, and exclusive merchandise—leading up to the January 22 premiere.
